World Sight Day

eye and visual table

October 12 is World Sight Day. We at Ocilat svjet believe that good and accessible information, combined with adequate actions, in terms of prevention, can provide you healthy eyes.

Sight is one of our most important senses. We often see more than we can perceive. Thanks to sight, we are able to enjoy the colorful world around us.

But unfortunately, many people around the world lose their sight, and often this can be avoided through regular prevention and adequate care.

World Sight Day aims to help people understand the importance of eye care.

History of World Sight Day

This annual celebration focuses on awareness of blindness and visual impairment.

It was first recognized in 1984 by the Lions Club Foundation.

A few years later, the World Health Organization (WHO) joined along with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

The IAPB brings together charitable non-governmental organizations from over 100 countries that make sure everyone gets the eye care they need.

The growing problem of blindness is prompting all these people to unite around the cause of finding a cure and creating effective prevention.

The celebration of the event takes various forms.

Some people support World Sight Day by planting trees, while others get involved by submitting a photo online to be used to create an international photo collage focusing on the topic of blindness.

Charities are being run to raise funds to cover the costs of operations, books are being read to the blind and a number of brochures and posters are being produced to raise awareness of the issue.

How can you celebrate World Sight Day?

Get your vision checked

Vision is taken for granted, and it's not, so see an eye specialist to get you and your family examined. There are a number of reasons why routine examinations are important, but the main one is that at the earliest stage you can be diagnosed and protected from further eye problems. And this, in turn, protects you from serious damage or loss of vision.

You can make a promise to yourself to love your eyes, join the rest #LoveYourEyes.

Be responsible, because as you know, the eyes see everything, as long as you have the right glasses.

Make a donation

Many people in isolated parts of the globe are at greater risk of blindness and vision problems because they lack access to eye care. World Sight Day provides the perfect motivation to make a donation to a charity that helps people who are struggling to get the vision care they need.

Did you know that...

We at the world of glasses remind you "Get screened now to make sure you'll see tomorrow."
